Welcome to my Blog!
Hello and welcome!
I’ve had all of one person say I should make a blog about our traveling adventures, so here it is.
I’m Lucas, and I live full time in a travel trailer with my wife, Alice, and our four (yep, I know) cats: Squishy, Binx, Beasley, and Axel. We sold our house around September 2022 to travel the United States, and we just doubled-down on the lifestyle by upgrading to a larger trailer.
How did we get here?
Here we are when we took home our first travel trailer with a truck that was too small (we know better now):
I work in Cybersecurity, which allows me to work 100% remote. I’m actually really lucky and very grateful to have a wonderful boss that allows for such flexibility.
In February 2020, we closed on a gorgeous 4 bedroom home with a finished basement. It basically looked like a frat house, honestly. There was a wet bar, a massive deck and screened-in porch, a hot tub, it was awesome. We wanted to host friends and have our family reunion there.
But then COVID happened. We had all of this house and no one to share it with. I felt it ended up being too much to take care of, and we started seeing people on TikTok selling their home to become digital nomads. Alice and I love traveling together, adventuring and seeing new places, so we decided to give it a go!
We made the decision late 2021.. aaand had a big enough leak in the house to warrant about $10,000 in repairs over 7 months. We couldn’t take pictures of the house and show it when it looked like this:
Once we got closer, we could finally start looking for options. I’ll make another post about how we decided on a truck and trailer over other options.
We purchased the truck first, then the trailer. The truck was a RAM 1500 and getting a half-ton truck was our first major mistake. the trailer we got and stayed in for more than a year was a 2018 Grand Design Imagine 2670MK. Although it probably could have been towed by a different half-ton, that RAM was just not as capable. We ended up getting a 3/4-ton truck, a 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT and we love it.
We’ve been all over the east coast now, and I’m really looking forward to sharing more about our adventures and how we adapted!
